Fresh Local Produce

10-12 The Green
Winchmore Hill
N21 1AY
Like many areas of life, there is this massive misconception that the further you go, the better things get; or as some would say, the grass is always greener on the other side.

Our latest spot proved just the opposite. Easily one of the best places I have visited, delivering on all fronts: quality, staff, service, taste, ambience, locality even down to parking/transportation links! So lets get into it...

In celebration of my little cousins amazing A Level results, we headed to a local 'Modern European' restaurant in the suburbs of Winchmore Hill.

A refreshing, naturally well lit and modern feeling restaurant ringing with the chatter of its guests alongside some subtle soulful, r&b tracks in the background.

Greeted by pleasant bar staff and immediately shown to our seats (window seats), the waiter wasted no time offering us a glass of fruit infused water whilst we reviewed the drinks menu. Following his very own recommendation we opted for Cocktails - 2 peach billions and 1 raspberry mojito please!

Once our drinks arrived our waiter was ready to take our orders. For starters we opted for : 1) Soup of the Day (Mushroom) 2) Spanish Prawn Pil Pil Seared Prawns 3) Fresh Crispy Calamari Coated in Smoked Paprika served with Garlic, Parsley Aioli and Lemon . Sharing is caring so we all had nibbles of each others starters.

Arriving delicately decorated, we were exited to dig in! The Crispy Calamari was a cheeky snippet of what was to come. The Mushroom Soup went down a real treat and as for the spanish prawns, which were the crowd favourite. Cooked in Chilli Garlic Olive Oil served sizzling although appearing small in size, the flavoursome dish woke our taste buds up and had us excited for the next round!
Giant King Prawns

For Mains, the decision was made pretty quickly. After tasting the Pil Pil Seared Prawns I was left with no other option that to choose the Giant King Prawns Cooked in Chilli, Garlic Butter served with Hand Cut Chips and Rocket Salad, and what a wise decision it was!

The prawns were perfectly seasoned, sizzling hot when they arrived and were served without the shell (yes the waiter goes as far as to ask your preference- how's that for service!) The dish of Chilli Garlic Butter was perfect for topping up the taste and transformed into the perfect dipping sauce for my chips.

The other mains included the Grilled Halloumi & Portobello Mushroom Burger served in a Brioche Bun, topped with Sautéed Red Peppers, Roasted Courgettes, Garlic Mayo and served with Hand Cut Chips which was finished in no time! And the Mixed Grill Chicken Skewer, Organic Lamb Skewer, Seasoned Lamb, all locally sourced, served with Pilaf Rice or Salad.

Both orders were positively reviewed. Although I wish I could have tasted the Halloumi burger myself, truth is the size of these meals are extremely deceiving. I was perfectly full by the time I had finished my dish. I must be honest though, I did have to resist the temptation to order another side of those delicious hand cut chips. Perfectly crispy on the outside and soft in the inside.

Now usually, as you know, we always have three courses. However on this occasion, I was contemplating only having two, but after looking at the dessert menu, it left me no choice but to figure something out. Not being able to choose, we were presented with a plater of their desserts. Heres the run down:

Summer Berry Eton Mess
Sweet Vanilla Cream muddled with pieces of Meringue and Fresh Berries

Homemade Sticky Toffee Pudding
Served with Salted Caramel & Madagascan Vanilla Ice Cream

Chocolate Brownie
Indulgent soft and sticky Fudge Brownie with White Chocolate Ice Cream & Hot Toffee Sauce

Sorbet
Sicilian Lemon • Granny Smith • Key Lime

Voila!
Buckle & Vaughn is perfect for a milestone birthday celebration, date night, girly catch up or if you fancy treating yourself for a fresh, wholesome meal. It's also one of the few restaurants which have been able to deliver consistent quality of choice and taste for all 3 courses : starter, mains and dessert. There is absolutely no excuse, you MUST make room for all three.

For me, this restaurant is unmatched. Clean, fresh and friendly. The food was delicious the staff were very accommodating, the only recommendation we have for you if you are planning to visit here is book in advance it can get pretty packed; you'll be pleased to know however, the team refuse to drop their standards because of this. You may have to wait a while for your food but it'll be WELL worth the wait. Can saw the pictures on our instagram and asked herself - who went there?? Not realising it was me! LOL

Check it out, tell them we sent you ;)
