The Foodies Festival - You Name It… We Ate It!

Foodies Festival
Clapham Common South

Firstly, let’s all take a few moments to celebrate that the fact that the sun came out! Sunday was the perfect day to head down to the Foodies Festival in Clapham Common, the sun was smiling and so were we…

Sunday 8th June was the final date for the London Foodies Festival so we headed south of the river to Clapham Common to see what all the fuss was about.

Walking into the Common, the field was filled with pop up restaurants from all over the globe, a visual world tour indeed. Not to mention the Festival had us covered from starters, mains, snacks to of course ….. dessert! Like the traditional elegant diners we are, we headed straight from the dessert stand.
Waffles, Strawberries and Chocolate, Churros, Vegan bread you name it we ate it! More impressively we found all of these desserts in one corner of the festival.

Once we had lapped up all of these desserts we were reminded that we had not eaten a proper meal all day. Like children who had been told to calm down by their parents, we headed back around the front of the festival where more ‘actual’ food was.

Mains

Jamelia was immediately drawn to the seafood option on the Masterchef finalists bus, which might we add, from what we saw was the only seafood option. Thai Green Curry Scallops which in her words “didn’t knock her socks off, but was enjoyable”.

Tandoori Chargrilled Chicken
Candace went for a more chargrilled option and had tandoori grilled chicken with noodles. The noodles weren’t piping hot which was a little disappointing, but that’s personal preference. The tandoori chicken however was packed full of the usual tandoor flavours but topped with sweet chilli sauce. On the offset, Candace didn’t think this combination would work but the tandoor gave the chilli what for and altogether was a great start to the afternoon.

Ok so mains are over, dessert dessert deseert! One of Jamelia’s favourite desserts had a stand and so we headed over. Waffles and ice cream make for the perfect match but much to our dismay, they had no ice cream. Yep, No. Ice. Cream. On to the next one..

Dessert
Churros

The strawberries and chocolate were enticing Candace from the beginning so that was the next stop. At only £3, Candace bought a full cup of cold strawberries covered in warm milk chocolate (we know your mouth is watering).

Thirdly, we headed to the Churros stand. Jamelia hadn’t tried them before and Candace isn’t a fan so our friend (instagram: BlissfulTales) went for it alone.

The crepe stand was our next logical stop but again, no ice cream - here Jamelia was willing to compromise so kept it simple with a crepe, and maple sugar. Although the pancake didn’t come with ice cream either, it did blow her socks off! Perfect textures, not too thin, not too buttery just perfect and the drizzle of maple syrup took it to new heights.

Plain Crepe
After our first round of food, we found ourselves a spot in the grass to just take in the sites and converse. As you read from our Pub Lunch post, we seem to attract some sort of entertainment and this afternoon was no different. A drunken lady came over and randomly started speaking to us while her son ran riot around the park little boy. Once he get fed up after being told off too many times, he plonked himself on the grass with his head in his hands. Hilarious!

30 minutes later, we went in for our final lap of food tastings and came across an nitrogen ice cream cart. Intrigued by the concept, Candace ordered an elderflower and lime combination. It tasted more like sorbet but was definitely one of the most refreshing desserts she had ever tasted – ideal for a Sundays weather.
Gelarto
Jamelia skipped the nitrogen ice cream and headed to a vegan cake stand where she discovered a delicious chocolate cake which tasted like heaven but left Jamelia feeling guilt-free ; its healthy because its Vegan right? That was her excuse and she was sticking to it.

All in all, the festival was a great day out. Perfect for literally people from all walks of life.  Kids and dogs are welcome, singles, older people, families, couples and of course foodies! With the help of great weather, the Foodies Festival did a great job at bringing live music, great variety and overall summer vibes together and it certainly somewhere we'd go back to.

Our only criticsm or recommendation would be that entry include at least one free dish or dessert.  Paying literally just for entry to then "fork" out again and again to enjoy the food at the festival…could work out to be quite an expensive day out if your appetite is anything like ours!

Other Foodie Festivals this summer include Taste of London, Urban Food Festival and The Social Festival of Food, Drink and Entertainment, just to name a few.  There's plenty to do this summer so keep up with all our foodie antics and let's go together!
