Catch Ups and Cocktails in The City...

Boundary
2-4 Boundary Street
London
E2 7DD
So for this post we thought we would switch it up a bit… Let us know what you think….

To enjoy the beautiful weather Jamelia took the time to catch up with two very talented ladies and the restaurant was just too good to keep to themselves...

So peek what Jamelia, Abena AND Vanessa had to say about 'Boundary Rooftop'.

Venue/Location:

WOM (Jamelia): Working in the city, it is easy to take for granted the number of rooftop bars it has to offer.. we are well and truly spoilt for choice.

On this rare gloriously sunny weekend in London, with a girls dinner well over due, we headed to the rooftop restaurant at Boundary, a hidden rooftop bar in mainstream shoreditch.

Reminiscent of a miniature theatre off Broadway (New York) with its brightly lit name and inviting door area; this old converted Victorian house immediately evokes exclusivity, and class. Upon entry I was taken aback by the fresh, modern, clean feel of the hotel.

Greeted by the reasonably polite staff (you know we are all about service!) I was given the option to go down to the basement restaurant, go to the hotel rooms or head straight up to the rooftop bar.

I headed straight for the rooftop where Vanessa and Abena were patiently waiting. If I said that boundary felt like the usual rooftop bar with the usual outdoor heating and comfy seats I’d be lying. Imagine a romantically lit greenhouse on the top of your favourite hotel in New York with the rawness of Williamsburg and at the same time, the luxurious feel of Manhattan
(Yes, I am a little obsessed with the concrete jungle).

Blueberry & Ginger Caipirinha
and Rooftop Passion
Minus the view - Boundary takes London rooftop dining to a whole new level.

The staff welcomed me as I approached the glass enclosed restaurant. Despite making the fatal mistake of assuming I was with another group based on the demographic of the group, I located my friends.

Inside the glass restaurant it was simply magical, I am not sure whether it was the fairy lights, the height, or the music played in the restaurant but it was the perfect beginning to what was sure to be a beautiful evening of cocktails, stories, encouragement and laughs.

The waitress was reasonably attentive, although seemingly rushed off of her feet, she took our drink orders immediately - and what a pleasant surprise they were.

Moules Frites

Abena (Life of an Alumni): I must admit this was my first time going to a rooftop bar in London, in order to have a good time at a rooftop bar there must be good weather. As we all know London can be very unpredictable when it comes to the weather but luckily our first time at the Boundry Rooftop Bar & Grill provided plenty of sunshine!

Upon our arrival the first thing I noticed was that the restaurant offered guests an option of being seated outside in the open or being seated within the waterproof pergola. This was great for me as I don’t really enjoy eating outside in the open and would much rather enjoy my meal in a covered area. The pergola still provided us with the ‘rooftop experience’ as it glass walls allowed us to enjoy the beautiful London City view.

Vanessa (The Shunammite Movement):
As you can imagine, rooftop bars don’t actually have the full effect if the weather isn’t decent, to our luck it was a lovely sunny day in London, and we were greeted by friendly staff and were shown to our reserved table while waiting for Jamelia.

I was in awe of the beautiful views that boundary rooftop bar offered, we were in the ‘garden design space’ which included a weatherproof pergola, although the weather was nice it was slightly chilly at this time. However there were other guests who were sipping on cocktails in the ‘rooftop space’ and the restaurant had provided them with blankets which I thought was cool.

Drinks:
I opted for the 'Blueberry& Ginger Caipirinha', Vanessa the 'Rooftop Passion' and Abena a coke. The cocktails were spot on, strong enough to warm you up, but not too overpowering, allowing you to enjoy the other flavours.

Vanessa (The Shunammite Movement):
We all got chatting, and started to order drinks! Hooray my favourite part of any meal – I ordered a rooftop passion cocktail, similar to a pornstar martini but much more subtle in taste, it was full of tropical flavour, and couldn’t taste the alcohol which is also a plus.. Definitely up there on my list of cocktails. We then had the Mediterranean breads for starters – which were delicious, I love olives so these breads were a treat!

Mains/Dessert:
Sumac and lemon marinated
whole baby chicken
and French fries

WOM (Jamelia): For mains, I took my pescatarian diet to a whole 'nother' level and ordered 'Moules Frites' - Mussels in garlic, white wine and cream sauce, served with skinny French fries for a very impressive £14.50. There is definitely something to be said about a restaurant with a 5star appearance, 5 star facilities and generously portioned food. So generous, I was not able to finish!
Sumac and lemon marinated whole baby chicken,
grilled potato and harissa
 and Moules Frites x2

The wine, cream sauce was to die for, salty but that is my preference, and the chips were slim yet filling. Having ordered the Mediterranean breads and olive oil for starters, I was deeply saddened to not have the privilege of trying their desserts but if the main was anything to go by I am sure I would have been in for a real treat!

Abena (Life of an Alumni): I ordered Sumac and lemon marinated whole baby chicken and French fries as my main course. If I’m honest I wasn’t expecting it to be that appetizing as I’m normally disappointed when I order chicken from restaurants as the seasoning isn’t prepared to my satisfaction. Yes, a little fussy I know. I will say the chicken at the boundary gave me a pleasant surprise as it was perfectly seasoned! It was so nice I took my remaining chicken home in a take away box provided by the restaurant to enjoy the following day. Ha!

Vanessa (The Shunammite Movement):
After speaking about how lovely the rooftop bar/ grill was it was time to order mains, I ordered moule frites – which was the first time I’ve ordered this dish, but I wanted to try something different. (I must add that there’s an open kitchen where you can see the food being made – genius!) To my surprise this dish was extremely tasty and I literally couldn’t stop eating, the wine cream sauce was simply sublime, and I thought that the salt was just right, the frites were not over cooked and had the crunch factor – which is a winner in my books.

Dessert you ask? No I didn’t order any, there simply wasn’t any room for anything else.

Overall Experience:
WOM (Jamelia): The dainty, spacious yet equally intimate ‘glasshouse’ feel of the rooftop restaurant is just the remedy, after a stressful week at work and in celebration of the beautiful weather to come!

We would most definitely recommend the venue for a romantic dinner, a birthday, renting it out for an engagement or bridal party.  - Basically any excuse to go back, we will!

Boundary proves you can eat well, enjoy good service, great food, even better cocktails and without breaking the bank…. Bring on summer!

Abena (Life of an Alumni): Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at the Boundary Rooftop bar and grill. The food, atmosphere and stunning views made it a great evening filled with laughter and great conversation. I would recommend this as a great place for any occasion as I will definitely for another boundary experience very soon!

Vanessa (The Shunammite Movement):
I would definitely recommend this venue for a romantic dinner, and for a general catch up with friends, there is great calm atmosphere, and it’s a hidden spot! Unlike other west end rooftop bars.
