A sweet ending to a meal is most certainly something we always look forward to but after we realised that life is short, we started having dessert first!

As you may be able to tell, WordOfMouthLDN are unashamed and self proclaimed dessert fanatics. Sometimes we feel that dessert is just enough, and on this occasion, it was exactly that. This week, we took a trip to Potty Pancakes, a specialist dessert restaurant in the quiet residencies of Barnet.

As we entered, we were transported back to 1950s. This monochrome, red sofa American diner style restaurant really invited a sense of clean and classic. Usually it’s just the two of us at the table but on this occasion, we came with some friends and family, including our little cousin who was particularly amazed at the playful décor and endless black and white photos of Marilyn Monroe.

Seated in the VIP section (you know how we do), the private booth really added to the exclusive Hollywood type feel of the restaurant. The menu was extensive with fun, exciting dessert combinations and Hollywood legend titled savoury options.
Pina Colada
Oreo Milkshake

Drinks
To drink, Candace had a Pina Colada and Jamelia an Oreo Milkshake. Candace loves the tropical beach like journey a pina colada takes her but on this occasion, she felt stopped in at the security gates. Extremely water based with a lack of pina or colada, a failed attempt and disappointing start. Jamelia ordered a oreo milkshake which was equally as disappointing.

Brownie Heaven
Main Dessert
Spoilt for choice, we all went ahead and ordered our main dessert. Jamelia kept things simple with a plain waffle with vanilla ice cream and maple syrup and Candace ordered an apple crumble on a waffle. Around the table, the variety continued with a brownie heaven and a skittles pancake with chocolate sauce.

As desserts arrived, the table was in amazement (mainly for dramatic effect on behalf of our little cousin) at the colours and sizes of each order. Candace apple crumble was like a deconstructed apple crumble on top of a waffle. The waffle, soft and warm not particularly sweet in itself but that’s where maple syrup comes in. The apple crumble segment wasn’t to her taste, a little too much and the cinnamon was a little overpowering and we know you’ve seen what happens when people do the cinnamon challenge! The crumble was a little dry and the apples were a little too soft, missing that subtle crunch. Overall, it wasn’t a favourite but presentation wise, 8 out of 10.

Jamelia’s dessert was heavenly, simplistic perfection. For Jamelia less was definitely more. The basic vanilla ice cream was the perfect partner to the waffle, and was made complete by the american maple syrup drizzled all over. We would most certainly recommend this!

Our little cousin had a pancake with skittles and chocolate, overwhelmed with excitement about what she was presented with, she was grinning from ear to ear.  What we love most about Pottys is their kids menu and the great extent to which they allow kids to customise their dishes.

Skittles '1,009' Pancake
with chocolate sauce
She was having an absolute field day and when asked her how much she would score the dessert out of 10; her response was – 1,009, The ‘9’ was just the cutest touch!

Pottys Pancakes was a great experience, one of North London’s best kept secrets and great for sweet tooth lovers who are proud to embrace the sugar (occasionally).
