When In Doubt… Eat Italian!!!

This week, we took a trip to La Pietra, a quaint rustic Italian spot.
Tucked away in Shoredtich La Pietra is the perfect hybrid between a hip, artistic yet corporate restaurant, perfectly fitting its location.

La Pietra Mocktail
The menu was varied yet cohesive, it is definitely a true representation of genuine Italian cooking with a modern day flare. “Pietra” translates to ‘Stone’ in the Corsican dialect which  is spoken in France and Northern Italy.

Sours
Drinks
Jamelia had the La Pietra mocktail (Non Alcoholic- Fresh Mint, Lime and Homemade Forest Fruit Preserve). This was a perfect choice, with an edge, awakening the senses. Candace opted for Sours (Amaretto, Fresh Lemon Juice, Sugar Syrup - took a miss on the egg white though) - a very smooth sweet taste yet the amaretto added a little heat; and as standard, a bottle of still water for the table.

Starters
For starters- initially we were tempted by the same option, yet after further consideration and advice from our waitress, we decided to share the La Pietra garlic pizza bread (Pizza Bread, Garlic, Oregano, Onion). Thank God we did, as the old caribbean saying goes ‘our eyes were too big for our belly! This garlic pizza bread was full of flavour, topped with standard Italian ingredients, garlic, herbs and onion served with a choice of chilli oil or olive oil.

Mains
Grilled Prawns on Himalayan Salt Stone
An array of succulent sounding options for mains enticed Jamelia to order Grilled Prawns on Himalayan Salt Stone with a side of Mash Potato and Candace, Sea Bream with Pine Nuts and Cherry Tomatoes.

Jamelia’s prawns were many and came with 2 choices of dip Bolognese and cocktail. They had a raw, rustic taste and were most definitely large and in charge! This combined with the soft, creamy mash made for a true treat!

Candace’s Sea Bream was grilled, topped with breadcrumbs, pine nuts and cherry tomatoes with a side of mash. both dishes meshed well with the overall zhoosh of the restaurant. More than satisfied with our meal, we could not help ourselves, why not, let’s have desert too!

Dessert
Jamelia ordered an Apple Pie and Candace, profiteroles. For Jamelia this was slightly disappointing; perhaps this was the traditional way of serving Apple Pie but Jamelia expected something hot, with a crispy pastry paired with some luxurious italian ice cream. Instead she was served a cold slice of a very ‘appely’ cake; the presentation however, impeccable and was decorated in chocolate sauce. On the flip side, Candace's profiteroles were rich and perfectly balanced both on the plate & to the taste.

This spot is definitely somewhere us WOM ladies chews to go back to. Either with a group of friends for a relaxed catch up or even a romantic meal with the other half.

La Pietra exceeded all expectations, delightful attentive and friendly staff, beautiful decor, clean bathrooms and to top it all off, have you ever been to a restaurant that won’t accept a tip? Humility at its finest!
